Chris’ Story

“After coming to the Mission, I am filled with hope... I now have a purpose.”

“Are you ever going to be part of your sons life?”

This question from his son’s mother was a wake-up call for Chris. He realized he needed a real-life change if he was going to have a relationship with his son again.

Chris grew up in a house where physical abuse and drinking were everyday experiences. He soon followed a path that would lead him to alcohol use at the age of 12, drug addiction at 14, four times in jail, and eight times in rehab. For almost 3 years, he lived on the streets and had no one in his life to support and guide him. Detox and rehab couldn’t offer him purpose or lasting help. If a change didn’t happen soon, Chris knew, “I'd be dead or I would be still struggling with criminality and addiction.”

After the phone call with his son’s mom, Chris heard of New Life Fellowship and decided to give it a try. He joined with the goal of getting and staying clean. Coming off the streets and through the Mission's doors for the first time, he felt relief that his life could change. “Before coming to the Mission, I was hopeless,” Chris recalls, “After coming to the Mission, I am filled with hope... I now have a purpose.”

He began to restore relationships with his friends and family, including his son. He learned about God and gave his life to Christ, which was a cornerstone for his recovery. Chris believed in himself again and he could hope for a better future.

“Without the Mission, I would be dead... I’m thankful to the Mission because the Mission saved my life.”
