UGM of Salem reports positive COVID-19 cases at Men’s Mission

0004 - sm

To our faithful donors, supporters, and volunteers, Union Gospel Mission of Salem would like to notify you that the Men’s Mission facility is experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak.

Yesterday on April 13 a guest staying at the downtown shelter tested positive for COVID-19. Upon this discovery, staff swiftly moved into action to quarantine guests and begin facility-wide testingA total of nine guests, all of which were in the same dorm room, tested positive for the virus. At this time, they are being cared for while in isolation at a local motel to prevent any further spread.

We would like our community to know that all protocols are being followed, and we are working closely with health authorities, while routine testing is being conducted across the facility. Safety for our guests, volunteers, and staff is at the top of our minds.

In an effort to further protect our guests and community but prevent the curtail of life-saving operations, to-go meals will be served, and volunteers and external contact with the Men’s Mission will be limited. Vaccines have been and are being made available to guests and staff staying at the Mission.

Please pray for the health and healing of our guests, and please pray for UGM staff as we seek to navigate this outbreak with wisdom. Thank you!
