How much would you pay for warmth, for security, for safety? In this season of gift giving there are those who have little to give, and everything to lose.
Imagine if everyone who went shopping on Black Friday and Cyber Monday set aside a little extra. That small gift could save a life: a holiday dinner for the hungry, safe shelter and refuge from domestic violence, a warm coat for a homeless child. It’s possible to affect real change through pocket change.
#GivingTuesday is a global holiday celebrating generosity and kindness through the support of nonprofits around the world. This year, we’re inviting you to join the movement. You can provide a hot meal, compassionate care and a chance for life change…all for just $1.66.
Here are a few small steps that will make a world of difference:
- Join the movement. Like and share UGM of Salem’s #GivingTuesday posts on Facebook and Instagram to spread the word. Shop with a mission at the Mission Store, where every purchase benefits homeless men, women and children.
- Go local. If you do your holiday shopping on Amazon, be sure to check out www.smile.amazon.com and choose “Union Gospel Mission of Salem” as your charity. Amazon will donate to us every time you shop!
- Donate one. Give twice. For less than the cost of a cup of coffee, you can feed and care for a person in need here in Salem. Only $1.66 provides a meal and full care for one person visiting our shelters. Thanks to a generous donor, your gift toward #givingtuesday will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $2,500!
This holiday season, UGM will provide more than 41,000 meals to homeless men, women and children, but we can’t do it alone. Your small donation can help purchase warmth, security, and safety for those in need.

Because we don’t receive government funding for most of our programs, private giving from our faithful friends fuels this ministry. We assure you that financial responsibility and accountability is an ongoing and primary concern in all we do. We take seriously our duty and responsibility to be good stewards of all the resources the Lord provides. As a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) and the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions (AGRM) we agree to comply with the recognized Standards of Responsible Stewardship.
