Every woman who arrives at Simonka Place comes to us in crisis. She does not know what else to do, or where else to go; if she had other options, she would utilize them. Most are running low on hope, wondering how they are going to put the pieces of their lives back together again. For others, their circumstances appear impossible to overcome.
I have always seen Simonka Place as the open arms of Jesus, saying, “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). We offer these women and children a place to rest and emotional support as we help them put into motion plans for their recovery.
These women and children need to know that God not only loves them, He also has great plans for their futures–regardless of past trials or present circumstances. Christ not only provides the strength they need to navigate through this difficult season in their lives, He also promises His love, support and friendship for the rest of their journey after they leave Simonka Place!
It has been such a tremendous blessing serving with UGM for almost nine years now, first as a counselor helping women break free from their addictions, and then as a case manager helping women overcome barriers like unemployment, trauma, mental health and physical disabilities.
Currently I serve as a Guest Services Manager. I usually know each woman’s name, and am honored to hear many of their stories! I help with the assessment process, connecting guests to a program here that will best meet their specific needs.
I absolutely love being here, serving alongside my team, loving our guests and pointing them in the right direction—to our Savior. I do this because I know that He is everything they are looking for and more! Christ alone gives the hope they need to look forward to a brighter future!
