Guest Services: Hope is the Point

Our clients come weary. Our guests come hungry. Our neighbors come broken.

Guest Services is the front line of the gospel when men enter into our building. We are more than a soup kitchen; we are safe place for our guests to rest and recover from the difficult circumstances and tragedies of life.

As I think about UGM and how we meet the basic needs of food, clothing, and shelter to those who come through our doors Galatians 6:9 always comes to mind.

“Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”

I’ve been serving at UGM for over 10 years and I continue to see God at work in the lives of the men in ways that impact my life as I lead and serve the homeless. It’s given me a greater appreciation of the grace of God as I see how lives are changed daily with hope of the gospel of Christ.

Our Guest Services Crew provides more than a bed. We offer each guest the opportunity to learn about Christ and experience life change.

One guest in particular, Mike B. came here only looking for a place to sleep. What he found was hope! He said to me, “UGM saved my life.” He joined our NLF Program and, though he didn’t graduate, he left here with Christ in his heart and a greater look on life.

Mike is now attending Bible College and has his own custodial business in Portland. He is sober, married to a godly woman and serving God in significant ways in his community. It all started with a single greeting at UGM of Salem.

In due time you will reap, if you do not give up.

Stories like Mike’s are why I serve at UGM.
